
ReFOCUS with Reece came about after nearly 20 years directly providing care and support to individuals and families facing dementia and its' impacts, whether that's at home, in the community, or in residential care.
I found the majority of my work has centred around better understanding the lived experience of dementia, learning to understand behaviour as communication. I found that when we focus on that, we can overcome barriers, avoid conflict, reduce stress and distress, promote engagement, and shift the focus.
My approach is investigative, using evidence-based practice and my own experience to explore specific behaviours. Through this approach we can develop holistic strategies, with "what if it doesn't work" plans, and develop a shared language of dementia.
